Carney’s Organic
Recycling Compost Facility
Project Overview
Carney’s
Organic Recycling: Our mission is simple:
We are reducing waste to be landfilled while creating a nutrient-rich
soil amendment. In the process we are improving air quality by
reducing methane gas emissions and air borne particulates. We are
creating sustainable, affordable options, while recognizing waste as a
precious resource. We hope to lead our corridor, industry and
province into the next step of environmental sustainability in
preparation of 2010, creating a Canadian legacy we can all be proud
of.
COR accepted its
first load of organic material into its tunnels on February 4, 2004.
During the commissioning stage we have processed 35 – 50 tonnes/day of
organic waste which otherwise would have been landfilled into a high
quality soil amendment.
The Wright
In-Vessel Composting System:
Carney’s Waste
Systems spent several years researching composting systems. Carneys’s
examined, toured and visited dozens of different facilities in North
America, Europe and Japan. The
Wright In-Vessel
Composting System met our criteria for processing complex feedstock
and addresses the concerns of odor generation and leachate. It
currently has 55 facilities operating around the world.
The Wright
composting system uses fully enclosed flow-through tunnels to
transform organic wastes such as meats, fish, dairy products, fruits,
biosolids, wood and paper wastes into a fine soil-like material in a
14 day period. By controlling oxygen, moisture, and temperature the
Wright System provides unprecedented control over the biological
decomposition of organic matter that exceeds all criteria and
standards set for composting facilities in Canada, the United States,
the United Kingdom and Europe. The Wright System is compact, fully
enclosed and modular in design. It is not affected by weather, does
not need large tracks of land and is clean and easy to operate.
General
Technical Features:

Processing:
Each of the stainless steel composting tunnels are designed to
accommodate 25 tonnes per day with a fourteen day retention in-vessel.
Composting: In-vessel continuous feed
composter, stainless steel lined, comprised of nine sections, a
loading section, three common sections, a spinner section with
rotating spinners to blend materials, three more common areas and a
discharge section with a series of breaker bars and an auger to remove
materials from the tunnel onto a discharge conveyor Includes a fully
automated control system, with air and water recirculation and data
capture.
Waste
Characteristics: Source separated commercial organic waste,
municipal organic waste, brush and land clearing debris, biosolids,
yard waste, and non-recyclable paper (waxed cardboard, soiled paper
products).
Product:
Sea to Sky Organics is now marketing premium quality soil blends with
the nutrient-rich soil amendment produced at their in-vessel facility.
All of our
products have been tested and monitored. We sell a soil amendment,
garden blend, top dressing and will develop custom blends for your
specific project.
We sell in both
bulk and bag. We deliver or you can pickup from one of our convenient
locations in the Sea-To-Sky Corridor.
Our product is a nutrient rich soil
amendment that can be used in gardens, lawns or landscaping. It is a
safe substitute for chemical fertilizers and adds texture, tilth, and
porosity to the existing soil contributing to accelerated root growth,
increased aeration, improved moisture retention and water absorption,
as well as reduced soil compaction and erosion.
