Products to Recycle

Carney's Waste Systems provides a full compliment of recycling options to manage your waste stream.  Our award winning programs allow for recycling and waste diversion up from 70-90% depending on your waste stream and system set-up.  Very few items cannot be recycled, and those items should be avoided.

Recycling not only saves the earth in many cases it saves you money.  It is a means of preserving precious resources.  Waste that ends up in a landfill is subject to tipping fees, which are presently $80.00/tonne.  The success of your program is up to you.  You can expect support from Carney's Waste Systems each and every step of the way.

The following are items that can be recycled through our comprehensive program:

Bin or Compactor Collection

Corrugated Cardboard...Corrugated cardboard is the single largest recycled material in our corridor.  Carney’s bales and recycles over 60 tonnes of this material weekly. It is a bulky item which is easy to identify, and easy to pull from the waste stream.  Corrugated cardboard can be collected in a variety of ways, however with the volume we expect from your facility we recommend collecting cardboard in a compactor.   In addition to being convenient,  a cardboard compactor will reduce vehicle traffic to your facility and will save you money in service costs.

Tote/ Igloo/ Compactor Collection

Paper...Paper products account for 1/3 of home and business waste streams.  Paper which can be recycled through our program include: Single-ply cardboard, magazines, newspaper, flyers, and office paper.  Office paper includes computer, photocopy, note and letter paper, windowed envelopes, post-it notes, index paper and self carboning paper.  The only paper that cannot be recycled in our program is paper that is covered in foil, wax or plastic film.

Carney's will provide cardboard desk side boxes for your workstations around your facility.

Glass - Glass is made from sand.  At Carney's Waste Systems we grind all colors of glass back into sand which is then used as road base or in home construction.  Glass containers should be rinsed and have their lids removed.

Grey Box Information

Tin/Aluminum – Both Tin and Aluminum are recycled back into tin and Aluminum products.   British Columbia recycles more Aluminum than any other province or state in North America because of the refund program that has been associated with Aluminum since the 70’s.   A recycled can of Aluminum uses only 5% of the energy that would be needed to mine the same quantity of aluminum and make a new can.

Recycling both Tin and Aluminum is as easy as rinsing the container out and placing it in the appropriate tote.  It is not necessary to remove the label from tin cans.

...for placement in the bins please rinse them out, remove the lids and flatten.

Plastic Containers – Plastic is a petroleum product.  Recycling plastic ultimately conserves on the scarce and precious resource of petroleum.  Carney's Waste Systems is proud to have one of the most comprehensive plastic programs in the province.  We recycle all plastic containers  #1 - #7.   Plastic containers include, plastic bottles, milk jugs, margarine and yogurt containers, salad dressing, shampoo, and cleaning bottles.  Remove lids, and rinse your containers before recycling.

Recycled plastic is used in a variety of ways, either in the manufacturing of new plastic containers or items with plastic content such as stain-resistant carpets, and fleece vests.  Plastic containers are chipped into small bits before being shipped to the end market for reprocessing.

Plastic Film – Plastic film bags are baled and recycled. Please bag your bags, and tie them off.  Loose bags are difficult to contain and can fly easily into the area surrounding your recycling site creating a mess. Plastic film includes plastic grocery bags, laundry bags, and bubble wrap.

Refundables -  The British Columbia government has imposed “Drink Box Legislation” which requires merchants to charge a refundable deposit on any container that holds a beverage except milk.   Owners of those containers can collect their refund by taking beverage containers to a bottle depot.  Refundable containers entering our recycling program will be handled accordingly.
