Land is preserved by
extending the life of existing landfill sites. By increasing the volumes
of recyclables, we decrease the volumes of garbage dumped at local
landfill sites. When less land is used and polluted by landfill sites,
more land is safely available for recreation, residential homes,
business operations, and civic and community services.
The Sea To
Sky corridor offers free recycling to all residents and visitors at the
many convenient depot sites. Depot sites are open 365 days a year, 7
days a week for the convenience of Recycling Champions. Depot sites
offer a range of recycling options, and there is no limit to the amount
that can be recycled at the depot sites, although large quantities can
be recycled easier at Recycle Centers.
Benefits of
depot site recycling include; convenience of time and location,
unlimited recycling volumes, cost savings to tax payers, less
contamination in recycling, develops committed recyclers who take
ownership of the program.
Contamination continues to be a challenge for any recycling program.
Contamination can be putting garbage in with the recycling, or putting
recyclables in the wrong bin, such as tin cans in with the cardboard.
Contamination of a few can spoil the good efforts of many local
champions who are working hard to recycle resources and preserve our
landfills.
We work hard
to keep the depot sites tidy, but we certainly appreciate the efforts of
local champions who remove their garbage after recycling and are sure to
put all recyclables into the bins provided. Everyone benefits from a
clean and tidy site.
